What To Expect At Your First Appointment
At your first appointment, the doctor will take a complete medical history and perform a physical exam. The doctor will then talk to you about what tests you need (not every patient needs allergy testing). If you need allergy testing or a breathing test, these will typically be performed that day. After testing is complete, the doctor will see you again to discuss the results and make a treatment plan.
Due to the time that the doctor will spend with you and the time needed to perform tests, new patient appointments take up to 2-3 hours.
Please bring a list of all of your current medications to the visit.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to patients with food allergies, we do not allow food (including coffee) in the waiting room or exam rooms.
Antihistamines & Skin Testing:
If you are going to get allergy tested you must stop all antihistamines (see preparing for allergy testing). We understand that some people are not able to stop their antihistamines. If you are unable to stop these medications for any reason, please keep your new patient appointment. Some people find that they do not need testing at all! For others, alternative plans for testing can be made. Our physicians will work with you to make a plan that fits your needs.
How young can a child be seen for allergies or asthma?
Because Drs.Pedersen, Solomon and Katz were pediatricians before they became allergists, all three of them are quite comfortable caring for children of all ages. Therefore, the time to see an allergist is when it is needed, rather than at any specific age.
